The team at Harrogate’s Watermark Gallery launch their inaugural Small Painting Show on 28th January, with an exhibition bringing together 21 of the UK’s most exciting contemporary artists – for something a little bit different.
Running until 19th February, the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to purchase paintings by artists including David A Parfitt , Louise Davies and Jason Hicklin.
Gallery proprietors Liz and Richard Hawkes were keen to do something special with their first exhibition of 2022. Liz explains: “With this show, we’re making art accessible to a wider audience”. A philosophy that is at the heart of everything the Royal Parade gallery does.
The show criteria for exhibiting artists ensures that it will be possible for the art lover to pick up a ‘unique bargain’. Each piece must be under 40 x 40cm, an original painting (there are no prints), all pieces are unframed – and most importantly, each piece is a completely new and exclusive work, painted specifically for the show.
With a fun, lively and eclectic mix of UK based artists involved, gallery visitors can snap-up an incredibly special piece from South Yorkshire oil painter Andrew Farmer, or illustrator Jane Ray, at a fraction of the cost of their usual works.
With this paired-back first exhibition of the year, the Watermark Gallery team understand that major art purchases might not be everyone’s January priority, but equally, arts and culture have never been more important to our society than they are now.
Liz: “What we have in The Small Painting Show is genuinely affordable, original art. In addition, there are pieces by artists in mediums (and ways) that they don’t work with regularly – making the works arguably even more collectable. The talented printmaker Jane Walker has produced four watercolours for us, that are very special”. County Durham landscape painter Jill Campbell, who’s expansive style is a favourite of the North Yorkshire gallery, has also transferred her practice beautifully to a smaller canvas.
The exhibition opens with a Preview Evening on 28 January from 6 to 8pm. RSVP by telephoning the gallery on 01423 562659 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
